Maintenancefest Walkerton

The Walkerton Clean Water Centre is pleased to be hosting Maintenancefest August 25 & 26, 2026!

Maintenancefest is a unique hands-on training experience that allows participants to cycle through 6 training modules over 2 days earning 1.2 CEUs. Register early to ensure you get a spot.

MODULES:

Confined Space Safety Awareness - Participants will learn the legal requirements for confined space entry, including legal responsibilities and how confined

space is defined. Instruction will also be given for the use of appropriate PPE, and various entry and rescue equipment. Participants will have the opportunity to practice non-entry and entry rescue using a variety of equipment.

Emergency Watermain Repair - Operators will become familiar with requirements under the new Ontario Watermain Disinfection Procedure, for watermain breaks. Participants will conduct repair techniques for both Category 1 & 2 breaks.

Frozen Service Connections - Participants will learn to identify why service connections freeze and to recognize indicators to anticipate the potential for freezing. An overview of conventional thawing technology and procedures will be provided. Attendees will have an opportunity to construct/de-construct a de-icer and participate in various thawing activities.

Jar Testing - Participants will learn how to conduct a series of jar tests and draw conclusions based on the results.

Maintaining Lab Equipment - Measurement of water quality parameters can be performed easily and accurately as long as care is taken when conducting the analyses. This module will allow the participant do the actual analyses using analytical equipment typically used by small systems. Detailed directions from the instructor will be provided, along with a discussion of the more common sources of error. Proper maintenance of analytical equipment will also be demonstrated.

New Watermain Disinfection - By the end of this session, participants should have gained the ability to: Discuss the New Watermain Disinfection Procedure and AWWA C651. Explain the steps of watermain commissioning. Describe the methods for chlorination of new mains. Perform a high velocity flush of a new main.

Recordkeeping Requirements - Participants will receive an overview of key sections of O.Reg. 128/04 and O.Reg. 170/03 pertaining to recordkeeping. Various methods of recordkeeping will be examined, along with the requirements to record special instructions, abnormal conditions and other pertinent information
