The Walkerton Clean Water Centre is pleased to be bringing Maintenancefest to Kingston on September 16 & 17, 2026!

Maintenancefest is a unique hands-on training experience that allows participants to cycle through 6 training modules over 2 days earning 1.2 CEUs. Register early to ensure you get a spot.

MODULES:

Backflow & Cross Connection - Participants will review the concepts and causes of backflow and cross connection and be introduced to various backflow prevention equipment. Participants will be able to identify hazards and assemble components.

Basics of Utility Locates - This module will cover the basics of locating underground water infrastructure, including an overview of the equipment and technology typically used.

Jar Testing - Participants will learn how to conduct a series of jar tests and draw conclusions based on the results.

Maintenance of Valves - Participants will learn how to evaluate valve conditions in the distribution system. This module will review proper exercising practices, ways to protect valves from corrosion and repair of broken isolation valves.

Maintaining Lab Equipment - This hands-on module will provide hands-on experience of with the use, maintenance and calibration of common lab equipment related to water quality analysis, such as pH meters, turbidity meters, spectrophotometers and colorimeters.

New Watermain Disinfection - Participants will learn the continuous feed method of chlorination as outlined in AWWA C651. The instruction will be supplemented with references to Section 1 of Ontario's Watermain Disinfection Procedure as it relates to chlorine concentrations and contact times. Hands-on training will include a continuous feed activity, ultrasonic flow sensor activity and performing high velocity flushing.

Recordkeeping Requirements - Participants will receive an overview of key sections of O.Reg. 128/04 and O.Reg. 170/03 pertaining to recorkeeping.Various methods of recorkeeping will be examined, along with the requirements to record special instructions, abnormal conditions and other pertinent information.
